Lose a Few Pounds

My friend Lorraine sent me this diet to try…

Breakfast
1 grapefruit
1 slice whole wheat toast
1 cup skim milk

Lunch
1 small portion lean, steamed chicken
1 cup spinach
1 cup herbal tea
1 Hershey’s kiss

Afternoon Tea
The rest of the Hershey Kisses in the bag
1 tub of Hagen-Daaz ice cream with chocolate chips

Dinner
4 glasses of wine (red or white)
2 loaves garlic bread
1 family size supreme pizza
3 Snickers Bars

Late Night Snack
1 whole Sarah Lee cheesecake (eaten directly from the freezer)

Remember: Stressed spelled backward is desserts.

If you delete this message, you will gain 10 pounds immediately.
That’s why I had to pass this on; I didn’t want to risk it.

Now be honest. Haven’t we all made bad decisions like this at one time or another? The only remedy is to start making the right ones…..

God does forgive our mistakes and loves us anyway, enen though we still have to deal with the fallout.

What if we did the same for others?

Example- “So you didn’t study for your finals and you failed? I love you. My love is not conditional to your graduating. However you will now need to find a job and start paying rent.”

Example- “So you insist on marrying this chap who controls you, I will love you–but note that I will not be paying the divorce lawyer.)

Hmmmm……

Finished! Finished! Finished!

Can you guess? It is FINISHED! My new book, Meeting Myself, Snippets from a Shattered Mind is on its way to agent Kelly Mortimer.!

It’s  hard to write about what pains you. It’s hard to tell the world about your addictions. It’s hard to face the truth about yourself….but I did it!

Abuse? Bulimia? Recovery? It is all in there and soon I hope it will be in your hands to read…..

Now I am going to celebrate by having a hot bubble bath. We’re snowed in and I gave up chocolate—so my celebration is low key for the moment…

If you like you may celebrate with me by signing on to my blog and leaving your congratulations.

I’ve Been Away

No I haven’t been to Bermuda, Hawaii or even Toronto. My head has been in my new book-Meeting Myself.

It’s almost done, but I am a basket case. Meeting Myself is snippets from a shattered mind. Mine. Truths I never wanted to see again surfaced into sight from a boiling pool of oil.

Thankfully that oil has changed from the type that made me cry ‘burn me into ashes, erase all these memories,’ into the  healing balm of the Holy Spirit.

Hard to relive? For sure. Still Painful? Oh, yes. But doable? Absolutely.

I promised an agent that my book would be in the mail to her by December 15th. God and I are making that deadline together.

What is your healing deadline? What has God called you to face that seems unendurable? Whatever it is, God’s oil can get you through.

Calling all Abusers!

I’ve been a little remiss here..blogging by the wayside so to speak. I am knee deep, well it’s about waist deep right now…in my new book.

Meeting Myself is a memoir of my life as a bulimic, recovering and otherwise. This means pawing through tons of mind garbage that I’d prefer not to revisit.

When I am not writing it, I am thinking it. YUCK. Do abusers ever care that they leave a shattered person behind them? I doubt it. If they did they would

never abuse.

I am calling all abusers to cease and desist.

We the abused are giving fair notice. We will NOT take it any more. We are declaring our minds to be God’s property. We are declaring our bodies as His.

Touch us at your peril!!!The Bible speaks about you..oh yes it does…in Matthew chapter 18

6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

7“Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! 8If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

Lord give us, the abused children of Your world, your grace and your healing and Your peace. Grant a sensible mind to those who abuse so that they might be willing to walk  a new life that  no longer includes abuse of the powerless.

Scribbles From your Brain (and Mine!)

–and the heart and the emotions and the pain and the—–whatever. That’s what journaling is.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone will be able to read, let alone understand my thoughts as I wrote them. It doesn’t really matter, because those pages fulfil their original purpose. They help me remember where I was, the difference God has made in my life and the places He wants me to go.

When I read that journalling was a key to freedom from sexual abuse, I started writing immediately. My journals (about 35 now!) are the place where I tell the truth to myself and to God and in doing so, I find the real me. They walked me through painful abuse issues to healing and acceptance.

What about you? Tried everything but? Why not give pen and paper (or online journalling) a chance.

Rise Above

Ever had one of those days when everything is your fault? No one wants to hear what happened but they all want to judge the result? Isn’t it fun? Ever want to tell them all what for?

But then you read your Bible verses for the day and they say something like this.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before his shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. (Isaiah 53:7)

How did Jesus ever do it? Keep his mouth shut, I mean.

Well, He is God, and God can do anything He wants.

Unfortunately, you and I are not God. However, if we have asked Jesus into our lives,  we do have the Holy Spirit living in us. That means we have the power to do what God tells us to do.

James 1:26 says that if we consider ourselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on our tongue, we deceive ourselves and our religion is worthless.

Drat! Just when I’d decided to defend myself too!

Here is the truth of the matter. God is our defender. He is strong and He will take up the case against us. (Proverbs 23:11)

Note my huge sigh of relief here!

Now if I can just find that roll of masking tape…….

Do You Know Who You Are?

I didn’t for a long time. For years I tried to make everyone else happy. The trouble with that is that I wasn’t. Happy, I mean.

Others often picked where I would eat, how I would spend my time, and invest my energy. The more I read my Bible, the more I understood that God wanted me to be myself. Wow!

Now most people would call me unconventional at best and down right annoyingly different at worst. They didn’t change but I did.

I learned to set boundaries. If what you want isn’t good for me and my family, get over it!

Does that sound too fierce for a Christian to say? Biblically, it is correct. God has a plan for our lives and He expects us to be our true selves, not the selves  others want us to be.

If you aren’t sold on this, you should check out ‘Foolproofing Your Life’ by Jan Silvious. It’s a study of Proverbs. It deals with the fools in your life who try to use, manipulate, and order you around.(Check for it at Precept Ministries)

As Walt Disney said: The more you are like yourself, the more you will like yourself!

You go, guys and gals. Start on the road to being who you really are and watch what God will do with that honesty! Brenda J. Wood

Secrets

Don’t you just hate having to keep a secret for someone? Me too. I have a post scheduled for September 7 and I can’t tell you what it is.. Now will I be able to keep my mouth shut until then? Bets anyone?

The trouble with secrets is that we keep the ones we should be telling. You know the ones.  The ones that sound like this: I was abused as a child, my boyfriend hits me, I have an eating disorder, I take drugs,I am a senior and my children are cruel to me. I could go one but there really is no need.

Speaking out on secrets like that means that we have a chance to get well.

When I confessed to an eating disorder, over time I was able to recover. That brought out another layer….childhood abuse.. and I am well on my way to health. Choose life, dear friends. Sometimes that means telling secrets.
