You? Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty slept undisturbed for years and all you want to do is get one good night’s rest! Do you ever envy her?

Are you plagued with insomnia, a snoring partner, or a sleep apnea problem? What about leg cramps or restless leg syndrome? Do you have nightmares or maybe even walk in your sleep?

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. (Psalm 127:2,  KJV)

God says he gives us sleep; so how do we get it? A few simple things include going to bed and getting up at the same time every day. That means no sleeping in, even on weekends, and no napping during the day.

Avoid screen time before bed—no not the window netting but all those electronic gadgets we are addicted to.

Exercise early in the day. Avoid caffeine and don’t drink too much liquid. Your mother was right when she limited your milk intake by 8 pm! Some people need a light snack; others find that causes indigestion. Do what works for you.

God loves Jogging

I jogged for about three years, a hundred years or so ago!  Once in that three years, I had a runners high. I remember feeling like I could run forever. That’s about once in 1000 days. It wasn’t enough to keep me motivated!

God gives an easier method of jogging.

I will [not merely walk, but] run the way of Your commandments, when You give me a heart that is willing. Psalm 119:32, AMP)

Of course, he has to first give us that willing heart. The Message Bible puts it this way.

I’ll run the course you lay out for me if you’ll just show me how. (Psalm 119:32, MSG)

And all we have to do is ask. Why, we’ll be jogging in no time!

Prayer – Lord, move our feet faster please… Amen

Stressfree Christmas Shopping

Think outside the traditional Christmas gift box.   How about gift certificates from a local hair salon or barber?
Or a gym membership for all who are thinking about some health improvement? (Try not to feel insulted if someone gets you one of these! MY first thought would be- do they think I ‘m fat!))

Who wouldn’t appreciate car wash gift certificates? Or hand made coupons for lawn care or snow shoveling or a golf pass? (Don’t give me the golf thing. I think golf just spoils a good walk.)

Do you like to eat? So does everyone else. Swiss Chalet, Wendy’s or even the Keg if you are super rich, all offer gift certificates.

And what about the promise of breakfast, lunch or dinner with the recipient at at the local mom and pop eatery? After all, eating alone is not that much fun.
How many people couldn’t use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle? Do you have a teen on your list who is saving toward their driving license?

And Moms? Moms would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.
If your computer needs a tune-up, you can find some young guy struggling to get his repair business up
and running.( Think Dan Barratt!)

Maybe you can make something nice or buy something unusual at our many local craft fairs.
And, how about taking someone to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre?

The gift of your time will be the most appreciated thing you can offer.

Let’s Do Lunch- Reviewed

Roger Troy Wilson ( Thomas Nelson) lost a lot of weight following this diet. True testimonials in the book allow that others have too.

The book is well written and easy to read. The recipes sound yummy. It will help some to lose weight because they need to believe that their bodies are different.

Bet here are the facts. We lose weight when we put less food in and more exercise out. If we take in  1500 calories and burn off 1500 calories we will stay at the same weight. That is simply scientific truth. Eliminating foods or eating them in certain combinations makes no difference to our weight loss.

Enjoy the book. It is a great read but the information is not new. It will not be your last diet. That is, unless you continue to eat low fat, eat less than your body needs and ‘force’ yourself to pick something beside dessert.
