Now That’s Class!

Friends, remember this. Manners always make a good impression!

I’ve reviewed lots of books over the years and not one author took the time to say thanks.

Today Amie Streater took the time to thank me for the great review I gave of Your Money God’s Way.

Now I can recommend the author too! She is quality!

Again I suggest you enjoy the read!! Brenda Wood

You Will Want to Buy This Book!

Your Money God’s Way by Amie Streater

Our reviews are generally about 200 words. So far that’s been enough for me.I’ve never before appreciated a book so much that I wanted to write two reviews for it, just so I could use more words! This book is it.The solution? Buy the book- ASAP.This is tough love money talk from a pastor who cares about how God’s people handle money.
It is truth we all need to hear and it is not like any other money book you have read.
She tells us truth like this.
If you are just plain stupid with your money, it is not God’s fault.
If you aren’t grateful for what you have, you won’t be grateful for more.
How we use money is a barometer of our spiritual condition.
The problem is never money and the answer is always God.
Saying no to a controlling, manipulative person does not yield pleasant results. They will accuse you of lacking compassion, not caring and even question your salvation..all in the name of getting you to cough up assistance one more time. Buy the book. It will change your life..
I do wish it had a study guide to go along with it so easier taught.

Rise Above

Ever had one of those days when everything is your fault? No one wants to hear what happened but they all want to judge the result? Isn’t it fun? Ever want to tell them all what for?

But then you read your Bible verses for the day and they say something like this.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before his shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. (Isaiah 53:7)

How did Jesus ever do it? Keep his mouth shut, I mean.

Well, He is God, and God can do anything He wants.

Unfortunately, you and I are not God. However, if we have asked Jesus into our lives,  we do have the Holy Spirit living in us. That means we have the power to do what God tells us to do.

James 1:26 says that if we consider ourselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on our tongue, we deceive ourselves and our religion is worthless.

Drat! Just when I’d decided to defend myself too!

Here is the truth of the matter. God is our defender. He is strong and He will take up the case against us. (Proverbs 23:11)

Note my huge sigh of relief here!

Now if I can just find that roll of masking tape…….

Ron is Back!

To our surprise Ron was released from hospital today when we had expected him to be in till at least Wednesday. His last chemotherapy worked too well and took his white and red cells down to almost non existent……

Today though he is back to his old self and we are grateful!! God is GOOD!!

The Silver Lining

Are you singing today?

Maybe your voice isn’t strumming out a cacophony of melodic tunes like ‘Amazing Grace’ ,  ‘I walk the Line’ ,or ‘Today I’m Going to Try to Change the World’  but your heart can still know its owner. You can thank God in everything that’s happening to you today.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 says give thanks IN all things, not FOR all things.

There is always a silver lining.

Do You Know Who You Are?

I didn’t for a long time. For years I tried to make everyone else happy. The trouble with that is that I wasn’t. Happy, I mean.

Others often picked where I would eat, how I would spend my time, and invest my energy. The more I read my Bible, the more I understood that God wanted me to be myself. Wow!

Now most people would call me unconventional at best and down right annoyingly different at worst. They didn’t change but I did.

I learned to set boundaries. If what you want isn’t good for me and my family, get over it!

Does that sound too fierce for a Christian to say? Biblically, it is correct. God has a plan for our lives and He expects us to be our true selves, not the selves  others want us to be.

If you aren’t sold on this, you should check out ‘Foolproofing Your Life’ by Jan Silvious. It’s a study of Proverbs. It deals with the fools in your life who try to use, manipulate, and order you around.(Check for it at Precept Ministries)

As Walt Disney said: The more you are like yourself, the more you will like yourself!

You go, guys and gals. Start on the road to being who you really are and watch what God will do with that honesty! Brenda J. Wood

Great News!

Did you know that people retire to have time to go to the doctor’s? This is true! Yesterday we made another visit, this time to the cancer unit at RVH.

Great news! The last chemotherapy session did its job with room to spare! God is so good.

Later, I asked Ron how he felt.

“Like singing and dancing,” he replied.

“What would you have felt if the report hadn’t been so good? I questioned.

“Like singing and dancing,” he answered.

Dear Reader, you might wonder how this is possible. You might even think we are living a Pollyanna existence.

But  we’ve had those bad reports….

And in the midst of them, we were able to remember the same truth.

Everything passes through the hand of God before it is ever  allowed to touch us.

And therefore, what ever it is, it is good, because God is good.

May you see your world today with the eyes of faith…..and expect God’s best…

God is Waiting

We were saddened to discover our summer visitors  left without saying good bye. Hummingbirds are polite, social beings. Every year they announce their arrival by fluttering in our face for a few seconds and they say good bye the same way.

This year, the  September chill kept us from the back porch. Any fluttering birdies fluttered alone.

How like our relationship with God. We wonder why we don’t feel so cherished and close to Him as we used to, only to discover that He has been waiting patiently for us to make ourselves available to His presence.

This might be a great day to sit down with your Bible.

The book of John is a great place to start.

God is waiting for you…
