The Trouble With Christians

The trouble with Christians is that we attack our own. We willingly believe any gossip floating around about our fellow believers.

For instance, did anyone research the lie about Rick Warren and Islam before whispering, gossiping, facebooking and tweeting the story around the world? Nope.

Or the dangers of Eugene Peterson’s Message Bible and the ‘frightening’ list of Christian leaders who dare use it instead of the KJV? Nope.

What about the rumors we pass on about our local Pastors and other Christian leaders? Nope.

Instead, we persevere in destroying the ministry of others. Shame on us.

If anyone says, I love God, and hates (detests, abominates) his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, Whom he has not seen.

Prayer- Lord, may neither our mouths nor our computer terminals spread gossip and lies. Amen.

Get Over Yourself-advice for the newbie writer

Brace yourself. There is no room for offense if you are a writer. Of course your relatives love your book; they have to. They are your Mom, sister, cousin. Unfortunately, your relatives are not your editors.

Your editor insists on changes, rips paragraphs to shreds and then discards the whole thing. Take heart. Even best-sellers like Stephen King and James Patterson suffer through this. In fact, people are still re-writing God’s manuscript, even though it hit print several hundred years ago.

Readers will hate your story, dissect your words and complain about your style. They’ll assume your heroine is based on their charming self (let them) but they also fret because surely you stole that bad guy scenario from their past happenstance. No matter.

Carve more writing space into your calendar. Put your heart and soul into each scribble. Expect fear but don’t let it stall you. Submit your work to contests, blogs and magazines, anyone that will take it.

If writing is really your passion, nothing can hold you back. Continue to believe in your message and your calling. Say it aloud. I AM A WRITER, and mean it. Believe in yourself, no matter what others say, because the only thing that can hold you back…is you.

A Blanket Affair

My neighbor, Linda, began a conversation with the entertaining couple in her mom’s hospital room. The gal’s boyfriend, age 99, explained that they hadn’t married because they couldn’t find the right bridesmaid!

However, the sick woman often complained of the cold and the thought came to Linda to buy her a cosy fleece blanket. She decided it was her God errand for the day.

When Linda told me about the blanket, I thought, “I can do that.” After all, the blanket lady had the same name as one of my favorite aunts. Without saying a word to Linda, I made a blanket and daringly embroidered ‘INGA’ on the corner.

Meanwhile Linda searched the stores, only to discover that January in Canada meant more bathing suits and lounge wear than blankets. Had she misread God’s plan?

She came home to my phone message, asking her to pick up Inga’s gift at my house.

When Linda gave Inga her blanket, she gasped and cried out…“Oh, that there are still such people in the world!”

And Linda had the opportunity to speak Jesus to Inga.

If either of us had ignored God’s subtle hints, Inga might have missed Jesus.

As Linda says, “That’s how it is with people who work for God. We care for strangers through Christ in us. (And I might add….even when the errands seem unnecessary, wonky or even weird!)

Prayer- Lord, may we always be sensitive to your will and pass along Jesus in what ever form you wish us to share. Amen

Chosen Friends, Stuck Families.

We are in touch with some family members but let others slide by the wayside. We might be related on paper, but we are not best buds for sure.

Are there relatives you entertain just because Mom asked or Dad likes to visit with them? That makes this verse a bit hard to take doesn’t it?

Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another.  (Romans 12:10, AMP)

As usual, God’s word gets to the core of the problem.
