Prayer – Lord, we ask that all of us may go forward into the New Year, living well under your influence. Amen
Monthly Archives: December 2015
Roll your past into your past
Yes it is New Year’s Eve; that day when we can roll all our past into our past and start into a new future. The Bible often mentions the new day. Light is sweet; how pleasant to see a new day dawning. (Ecclesiastes 11:7, NLT)
Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. (Matthew 28:1, NLT)
That’s what the New Year can be for us. A new beginning, as we take what happened to us or through us this past year and let it go. Then we can concentrate on the New Year and live it as fully as we can through the resurrection of the Christ. We can claim his promises and live them as our own, for he died for each of us individually.
Remember??
And in the midst of all this chaos…we’ve forgotten why Christmas even is. It’s all about Jesus! Jesus! Remember??
Should I?
What ‘shoulds and expectations’ do we add to Christmas?
Obedience
What would have happened if any one of the participants—Mary, Joseph, innkeeper, angels, shepherds, and wise men—had disobeyed? What happens when we disobey now?
Ever been afraid?
The Bible clearly states that the appearance of an angel scared the shepherds out of their wits! Luke 2:9
Just Asking
How would you like to be 9 months pregnant and spend a week or two, riding a donkey for 80 miles or so (111 Km) across dangerous dirt paths, with a guy you barely know?
Do you ever just know something in your spirit, by the spirit?
That’s what happened to Elizabeth when Mary showed up on her doorstep in Judea. The Holy Spirit came upon Elizabeth.
At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”(Luke 1:41-44, NLT)
Elizabeth hasn’t heard a word except a ‘Hi there, Elizabeth’ but the Spirit made everything known to her.
Do we trust the Holy Spirit when he speaks to us or do we doubt his presence?
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. (1 Thessalonians 5:18-20, KJV)
Prayer – Lord, help us follow through on this verse…for Christ. Amen
