Garden Garbage

What did you find in your flower garden and on your lawns, your parks and your villages this year? I bet it was nature’s garbage. Nature’s garbage is a collection of dead leaves, dead flower heads, broken twigs and pinecones.

Nature knows when to get rid of its junk. Do you? Do you have broken lamps, multiple electrical cords with no idea what they are for? Are you hoarding your grown children’s kindergarten pictures in case they want them? (P.S.-They don’t!)

Here is a list of some of the things God considers to be garbage.

-Trying to get your own way all the time

-repetitive, loveless, cheap sex;

-a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage;

-frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness;

-trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness;

-cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants;

-a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives;

-small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival;

-uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions;

-ugly parodies of community.

Why Bother?

Do you wonder why God even bothers about you? Why has he made all these astounding promises to us? These verses give us the answer. Oh and don’t forget gals, he used here is all man/womankind so we are included! YAY!

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life, I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16, NIV)

Did you get that? Because we love him and acknowledge his name, he rescues, protects delivers and honors us.

And all we have to do is call on his name. Do you know the name he speaks of? Are you aware of the name above all names? Without it, God’s protection plan is not available to us.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-12, NIV)

Nancy Zieman Sewing Icon Passed

If you are not a sewer you might miss the importance of an inspirational life well-lived. Nancy Zieman passed into the arms of Jesus this week. For 30 or more years, I watched her sewing show on PBS all the while improving my sewing skills.

When I had my parotid tumor (Facial gland cancer) I wrote to her to say that we were likely the only two in the same boat. Both TV hosts and both with some facial difficulty;( Nancy had Bells Palsy as a child.)

She called me to tell me from Wisconsin to encourage me and talk about where to get treatment. We had a great discussion.

I said “Nancy are you a Christian?”

I sure am, Maam!”She replied.

Nancy lived her life with dignity and honor and I am proud to have known her even a little bit.

Bug Free by Prayer and Common Sense

I just spoke at a campground that was invested by mosquitoes. The organizer wanted us outside. I braced myself for lots of squishing as I delivered my message. However, we all prayed the place bug-free and the leader helped God out by thoughtfully lighting several bug deterrent candles and placing them on each table. What a difference it made to both us and to the bugs. Not one of them lost their lives during my message.

Hope to see YOU there!

What Language Do You Speak?

Hebrews 1:1-2-God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world (NASB). Christ, Creator, God, Heir, High Priest, Jesus, King, Lion of Judah, Mediator, Risen Lord, Shepherd, Son of God, Ruler, Holy One of Israel, Life Source, Saver from Sins.

No matter the name, it is all the language of ‘Son’ and when we search for him, we will find him. Choosing the right Paint

For a scant three hundred dollars, I got exactly the right paint for the walls. Yes, I am redecorating. Expensive you might say? Not for the whole house. After all, paint is paint. But I digress.

Truthfully, the only paint I needed to match, I didn’t even get to choose. The dentist mixed a few potions together to blend the new parts of my chipped front teeth with the old originals.

While the local hardware store might have been faster, it wouldn’t have been so thorough and any way they only sell by the quart and the gallon. I just needed a smidge…..I haven’t seen myself in the dark yet. Perhaps I will be like the “Home Alone” criminal whose front toot sparkles a gem-like twinkle.

Just goes to show you that a fall is more than a seson of the year.
