You Want What?

Eating out with my husband was always an adventure because he liked to confound his order (and the waitress!) with diner slang.

He might order “Adam and Eve on a raft, “or a “pig between the bed sheets.” (Poached eggs on toast or a ham sandwich) Other favorites were a “make him cry” (hamburger with onions) or “Adam’s ale and cow feed on the side.” (Water and a salad)

He and a seasoned waitress would laugh while an inexperienced one would scratch her head and look to me for translation.

Bible terms make sense after you’ve been a Christian for a while, but when we share Jesus with an unbeliever, words like washed in the blood, justification, and redemption scare them away.

There is one simple truth to share with an unbeliever. Even in the old style English of the King James, it makes perfect sense.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16, KJV)

Prayer- Lord may our words encourage, not mystify. For Christ who died that we might simply believe. Amen.

A different prize is offered at each blog site (no purchase necessary), however if you want to have a chance to win one of two Kindles the network is giving away, the only requirement is that you sign up for the John 3:16 ezine newsletter. (Located at the top right side column of the John 3:16 blog site.)

(See official rules here.)

At the other blogs, each author will require that you leave a comment (and a valid email address) so they may contact you if you win a prize offered on their blog site.

May I also suggest that you show your love and appreciation to each blog host by either following them on Twitter, or “liking” them on Facebook or even subscribing to their blog. It won’t help your odds of winning a prize but I know each author would be thrilled and very encouraged!

The Jesus Rose

Mark 16:9– When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. (NIV)

A carpenter by trade, Earl read the signed note with great interest, because he recognized the names. “This little rose was given to me on our first-month anniversary. I hung it inside this wall with the hope that all who live in this apartment will be as happy as we have been.”

This dear little note protected an oh-so-dried-up red rose. To his delight, the two people mentioned still lived in the community. Better yet, they were still married. Hugs and tears of joy followed when he hand-delivered the flower!

Another person might have ignored the rose, or called it junk and tossed it. However, Earl recognized it for what it was: love.

Jesus rose from the dead. Some deny it. Some refute it. Others leave the resurrection hanging where they found it — no decision for them.

But others see that Jesus Rose and understand the message. And they pass it on.

Have you seen the Jesus Rose for yourself?

John 3:16– For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV)

Prayer: Lord, thanks for giving us Your Son, the Jesus Rose, the emblem of Your love. Make Him real to us again today. Amen.
