Fake News

It seems we will believe anything today. The more absurd, the more we want to take it in as truth. I include here some of the old timers that we fell for and still swallow. Turkey does not make you fall asleep on Thanksgiving. It is sheer gluttony and over indulgence.

Chocolate does not give you pimples. (What a relief to find this out!) Apples are not a miracle cure for anything. Honey, sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, high fructose, etc. All have the same bodily effects. Autism is not caused by vaccinations.

Carrots don’t make your vision better. (Thank God, for I am not a fan of carrots!) Your brain cells aren’t stemmed by your age. Stuff your brain (not your stomach!) In spite of yogurt ads, yogurt can’t fix your stomach issues. Gum won’t clog your digestive system. What goes in, goes out.

Have I rocked your world? Challenged your common sense? Will you at least take Jesus’ word for it?

And Jesus called the people to Him and said to them, Listen and grasp and comprehend this: It is not what goes into the mouth of a man that makes him unclean and defiled, but what comes out of the mouth; this makes a man unclean and defiles him. (Matthew 15: 10-11, AMPC)

Still Laughing

I actually teach a seminar on humor because I think there isn’t much of it going on in today’s world. I am not alone. See the esteemed folks and their quotes below.

“Humour is the great thing, the saving thing, after all. The minute it crops up, all of our hardnesses yield, all our irritations and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.” -Mark Twain

“Trouble knocked at the door but hearing laughter hurried away. ” -Benjamin Franklin

“You can’t stay mad at somebody who makes you laugh.” – Jay Leno

“A day without laughter is a day wasted. ” -Charlie Chaplin

“Laughter is a mini vacation. ” -Milton Berle

“Laughter is the closest distance between two people. ” -Victor Borge

“From there to here and here to there funny things are everywhere.” – Dr. Seuss

Never let it be said that God doesn’t have anything to say on the topic!

Then were our mouths filled with laughter, and our tongues with singing. Then they said among the nations, The Lord has done great things for them. (Psalm 26:2, AMP)

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter [Job] and your lips with joyful shouting. (Job 8:21, AMP)

Try these on for size!

  • Spotted in an office:  After the coffee break, all staff must empty the coffee pots and stand upside down on the drain board.
  • In a health food store window: Closed due to sickness.
  • On a sign: If you can’t read, you can get help at this address.
  • Overheard:  Return my stolen stepladder or further steps will be taken.
  • News headline: Police now running down jaywalkers.

We faithful tend to be a little gloomy… But the truth is, life is funnier than we allow. Smile and the world smiles with you…

All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face! He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter.(Psalm 30:4-5, MSG)

Prayer – Father God, help us see the joy in living the life you gave us! Amen

Choose Life

And I’ve been having a pity party for the last two. That’s why you haven’t seen me here.

“Get out of the house. ” I heard this from three separate people in three different countries. I choose not to listen. It felt good to cry…so I did. And then I added a widget to my blog that tells my topics. The larger the letters the more times it’s been mentioned. Check for yourself…it is Common Sense… And I thought I’d better get some.

Then someone reminded me that even in laughter the heart may ache —-but you can decide which side of the ache to stand on. (Oh,who said that? Let me think! It was me!) I found the scribbled words I added at the last minute to my message at Ron’s going home to Jesus Celebration.

And I decided to stand on the side of joy for Ron’s sake. Because I don’t have to feel happy to put a smile on my face. Because God is faithful and true no matter what. Because God will tell me day by day what to do. Because my needs are being provided for in a myriad of ways. Because I choose to choose life…..

Oh and did I tell you? Just after I posted the note I found from Ron about “being ready to tell the world of my God and my love for you”…I got a call for a speaking engagement. God is working his plan in his way…. and I am going along for the ride.
