Which one are you

One person likes to think that lightning flashes indicate God is taking her picture.

Another believes the noise is only angels bowling. Still another one hides under the bed at a roll of thunder. Which one are you?

The Bible says that is the Lord, thundering from heaven! (Psalm 18:13, NIV)

One person is grateful when a friend brings over a bowl of homemade soup. Another sees an interfering busybody. Which one are you?

The Bible says-Cynics look high and low for wisdom—and never find it; the open-minded find it right on their doorstep! (Proverbs 14:6, MSG)

Some people immediately think that a person who forgets a name must have Alzheimer’s while current studies suggest our brains are just too full and like an overwrought computer, it just takes longer to find stuff in there. (Sarah Knapton, Dr. Michael Ramscar)

God knew that all along.

They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green. (Psalm 92:14, NIV)

Alice in Wonderland

I really didn’t believe I’d be on hopestreamradio.com until I actually heard my voice there. I’d done all the prep work of course, but when they actually played my first session? Wow! Did Moses feel the same way when God told him to lead the Israelites out of slavery into the Promised Land? (Exodus 3:16). He did what he was told but maybe he only really believed it when he actually saw it with his own eyes. (GOD took you right out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to become the people of his inheritance—and that’s what you are this very day. (Deuteronomy 4:20, MSG) Are you that kind of believer too? You know, the Alice in Wonderland Believer? “There is no use trying,” said Alice. “One can’t believe impossible things.” “I dare say you haven’t had much practice. When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” (Lewis Carroll from “Alice in Wonderland) What is the Lord asking you to believe today? May you find him faithful… because he is–no matter what we may believe at the time. Prayer – Thank you God, that you are faithful, always. Amen. (1 Corinthians 1:9, NIV)

Birthday Pake

Sometimes an act of desperation becomes a brilliant invention. So it is with our family and Pake. Our son asked for Lemon Pie instead of the usual birthday cake. I ran out of time and instead, poured his favourite lemon pie filling over thin slices of lemon poppy seed cake. What a hit! I may never have to make pastry again!

God got to the end of his rope so to speak.  He’d led his people through every event possible, (see the Old Testament!) and yet they still did not trust him. They followed him when it was convenient and abandoned him when it suited them.

And finally, he prepared the most wonderful Pake for the world. God’s recipe for Pake was to send Jesus so that we could see God incarnate, i.e., ‘in bodily form.’

And still there are a lot of unbelievers in the world who refuse to believe that Jesus Christ was truly human, a flesh-and-blood human being. (2 John 1:7a, MSG)

Prayer- Thank you, God for your Pake, the most brilliant plan ever, the son of God incarnate, in bodily form, available to us, just for the asking! Amen

Good Advice

“If I were in your shoes, I’d go straight to God, I’d throw myself on the mercy of God. After all, he’s famous for great and unexpected acts; there’s no end to his surprises. He gives rain, for instance, across the wide earth, sends water to irrigate the fields. He raises up the down-and-out, gives firm footing to those sinking in grief. (Job 58-11, MSG)

Be Direct

God gives his children the best.

“Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn’t a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better? (Matthew 7:7-11, MSG)
